Seven-Year-Old Olya Has A Heart Defect. Heart Surgery Can Save Her Life. Please Help.
"This year, our oldest, Olya, has to start first grade, but I have no idea how she will withstand the school workload. When she was two years old they found a heart defect. All these years we have seen a cardiologist and had hoped that the defect will close by itself. Now, there is no hope. Because Olya has a diseased heart she often has colds and strong coughs and often suffers from pneumonia for long periods of time. This led to the development of asthma. No sports, no dances - all these are closed off to us, even the usual daily exercises should not be done. Olga wants to dance, ski, skate and is angry when we do not let her. This year, the ultrasound showed that the right atrium has started to increase. Olya can have heart surgery without cutting open her chest and without heavy anesthesia, and then she can go to school healthy!
But the operation is not covered by the national health insurance and has to be paid for, and we cannot pay. I am a teacher in the design college, now on maternity leave with my younger daughter; my husband drives a minibus. He is paid seven and a half thousand rubles ($250US) - that's all that we earn in a month. I implore you, help us, please, pay for her surgery!"
Olya was successfully operated at the Tomsk Cardiac Center in Siberia on June 28, 2011.
