Eighteen-Year-Old Ilya Has A Heart Defect. Open Heart Surgery Can Save His Life. Please Help.
when a child is sick, but a life threatening condition is truly
heartbreaking. Together we can not only help to heal a child's heart -
but also that of the parents. Consider Ilya's story and please help:
Ilya has transposition of the great arteries with a ventricular septal defect and subpulmonary and subaortic obstruction. Transposition of the great arteries is a severe congenital heart defect in which the two large arteries that carry blood out of the heart are connected to the heart abnormally. They are switched (transposed). As a result, the normal flow of blood in the body does not exists and the child does not get enough oxygenated blood.
cardiac surgeon Harold Burkhart, M.D. of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,
Minnesota will perform Ilya's heart surgery.
Your support helped make this possible.
