Fifteen-Year-Old Nikita Roshchin Has a Heart Defect.
Heart Surgery Can Save His Life. Please Help.
Nikita is your typical teenager. You'd never know he has a life threatening heart defect. Nikita has an ASD (an atrial septal defect), a condition in which the wall that separates the upper heart chambers does not close completely. As a result, blood continues to flow from the left to the right atria. If too much blood moves from the right side of the heart, pressure in the lungs builds up. If the ASD is not closed, Nikita risks heart failure, atrial fibrillation, pulmonary over-circulation, pulmonary hypertension and stroke. Nikita is from the Smolensk Region in Russia.
Thanks to your generosity, Russian Gift of Life, USA raised the funds needed for Nikita's heart surgery and travel expenses from Russia to the United States.
Nikita was successfully operated at Saint Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York on February 15, 2012.
