Eleven-Year-Old Egor Has a Heart Defect.
Egor is an eleven-year-old boy with a congenital heart defect called a VSD
(a ventricular septal defect), a condition
in which the wall that separates the lower heart chambers has one or more holes. He was first diagnosed with
this condition at birth and has been waiting over a decade for help. Treatment for this heart defect in the
area where Egor lives is non-existent. Egor is from the Smolensk Region of Russia.
Upon examination in the United States, Dr. Levchuck determined that the hole in Egor's heart had reduced in size significantly and had virtually closed on its own. Doctors decided that the risks of heart surgery would outweigh any potential benefit.
Egor was medically cleared to go back home on October 2, 2013.
