Help Save Children Like Little Liza and Slava...
Little Liza was born with a complex congenital heart defect called transposition of the great arteries. Transposition of the great arteries is a severe congenital heart defect in which the two large arteries that carry blood out of the heart are connected to the heart abnormally. As a result, the normal flow of blood in the body does not exists and the child does not get enough oxygenated blood. Fortunately for little Liza, Dr. William Novick conducted a medical mission to Russia funded by Russian Gift of Life USA and Liza was able to receive life saving open heart surgery.
In 2011, Slava was one of fifteen children in Voronezh, Russia who was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a very complex congenital heart defect. Today, he is the only one of the fifteen, who is still alive. Rusfond, Rusfond USA and Russian Gift of Life USA teamed up to bring Slava to the United States for life-saving open-heart surgery.
Russian Gift of Life USA is committed to developing pediatric cardiac centers, so that children like Slava can be helped right where they live. The next medical missions to Voronezh is scheduled for the summer of 2017.
Dr. William Novick, Russian Gift of Life USA, the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Voronezh Regional Hospital and the Nizhny Novgorod Cardiac Center have agreed to collaborate in order to improve pediatric cardiac services in the Russian cities of Voronezh and Nizhny Novgorod respectively. On each medical mission, Dr. Novick leads a team of international pediatric cardiac specialists to work with their colleagues in Russia to expand pediatric cardiac services. The visiting teams consist of a senior level pediatric cardiac surgeon, a pediatric cardiac anethesiologist, two pediatric intensivists, a perfusionist, scrub nurse, respiratory therapist, and intensive care unit nurses. The visiting team works side by side with their Russian colleagues at all times providing direct hands-on teaching at all levels. The visiting team provides 24-hour coverage in the intensive care unit and expects to provide life saving open-heart surgery to ten children on each medical mission.
What all this means is that with your suppport the Voronezh Regional Hospital and the Nizhny Novgorod Cardiac Center will be able to help children like little Slava and Liza. To bring the next medical missions to Voronezh and Nizhny Novgorod in 2017 and save many more children, more funding is needed.
