Save A Child from Heart Disease
Please Help Save Andrei.

Andrei was born with heart disease.

Andrei is five years old and has Tetralogy of Fallot.

Tetralogy of Fallot is a cardiac anomaly that refers to a combination of four related heart defects that commonly occur together. The four defects are:

1. Ventricular septal defect describes one or more holes in the wall that separates the right and left ventricles of the heart. Ventricular septal defect is one of the most common congenital (present from birth) heart defects. It may occur by itself or with other congenital diseases.
2. Overriding aorta − the aortic valve is enlarged and appears to arise from both the left and right ventricles instead of the left ventricle as in normal hearts
3. Pulmonary stenosis − narrowing of the pulmonary valve and outflow tract or area below the valve that creates an obstruction (blockage) of blood flow from the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery
4. Right ventricular hypertrophy − thickening of the muscular walls of the right ventricle, which occurs because the right ventricle is pumping at high pressure

Andrei had his fourth operation, suffering from obstruction of a conduit placed just two years previously. The operation took most of the day, since bleeding is a major risk in such re-operations, but was slow and sure and passed without any complications. Andrei came off the ventilator just two hours post-operatively and left the intensive care unit two days later.

The Gift of Life, Inc. and Russian Gift of Life USA are helping to fund medical training missions to Nizhny Novgorod, where Andrei was operated. The first mission took place in November 2014.

Andrei was successfully operated on April 5, 2017.
