Four-Year-Old Ksenia Has A Heart Defect. Heart Surgery Can Save Her Life. Please Help.
Ksenia is a four-year-old girl who was recently referred to the hospital
because of severe dyspnea (difficulty breathing) and heart failure,
which means her heart could not supply sufficient blood flow.
An urgent echocardiogram
showed the typical features of mitral valve atresia, tricuspid valve incompetence and hypoplasia of the left ventricle. This condition occurs when parts of the heart do not develop completely. If left untreated,
this condition is fatal.
Emergency funding from Russian Gift of Life, USA helped pay for Ksenia's surgery.
Ksenia was successfully operated at the Bakulev Center in Moscow on November 17, 2010.
Dr. Sergei Gorbachevsky,
a leading specialist at the Bakulev Center, replaced Ksenia's mitral
valve. After being discharged from the hospital, Ksenia returned home to the Moscow region, a healthy girl. Her parents Valentina and Mikhail thank everyone
who helped their daughter become healthy.
