Six-Year-Old Alesha Ovsyannikov Has A Heart Defect.  Heart Surgery Can Save His Life. Please Help.

“I am 21. My brother Alesha and my two-year-old son live in a one bedroom apartment, which our mother left us. Our mother died in 2007, she was sick for a long time. I became Alesha’s guardian. I do not receive benefits as a guardian because he has a father. He does not see his son, but gives 1,500 rubles a month in support (approximately $50 US). It’s not enough, of course, but who cares? Alexei was born with a triple heart defect. At six months, he had open heart surgery in Moscow: they fixed a patent ductus arteriosus defect and sewed up defects in the atrial and ventricular walls. My little brother has problems with speech. He is pale and thin, often catches colds and tires quickly. And so it turned out that the stitched seam in the atrial septum came open again. Again he has shortness of breath and blue lips. The Tomsk Cardiac Center is ready to take him and to close the defect without opening the chest. I can’t find the money for this operation with two children to take care of and no job. I was divorced in May of this year, with no alimony. I have never asked for help from strangers and never even imagined it was possible. But the doctors in Tomsk say that your charity will help strangers as if they were your own family. Please help us too."

Karina Mavletbaeva, Udmurtia.

Dr. Igor Kovalyov, a leading specialist at the Tomsk Cardiac Center says: "Alesha’s atrial septal defect will inevitably lead to complications – heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. The defect can be closed without a “big” surgery. And the boy will be healthy.”

Alesha
was successfully operated at the Tomsk Cardiac Center in Siberia on October 6, 2010.

Alesha's atrial septal defect was closed by an occluder. Dr. Evgeny Krivoshchekov said “blood flow to the heart is restored, Alesha is healthy and can now live a normal life like other children his age."

Alesha’s sister Karina thanks you for your help.
