Twelve-Year-Old Victor Has A Heart Defect. Heart Surgery Can Save His Life. Please Help.
“Little Victor entered our orphanage exactly ten years ago. He was very small and emaciated, unable to chew, no skills, unable to help himself. His mother is deprived of parental rights. She didn't feed him as a baby and when she got tired of his crying, while drunk, she threw him out the window. Victor is a quiet, sickly child. He's not active at all: he tires easily, gets out of breath easily. He is a student in special programs. In October 2008, an in-depth medical examination was conducted at the orphanage and Victor was first diagnosed with congenital heart disease. The boy is under observation at the district hospital by a surgeon and a pediatrician, but unfortunately there is no cardiologist there. The cardiac surgeons from Tomsk who saw him recommended corrective heart surgery at their center. On behalf of the administration and staff of the orphanage we are asking for help. The operation is high-tech and expensive, and the orphanage cannot afford it.”
Director of the Orphanage “Nadezhda” (Hope)
Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region,
Urals Federal District.
Dr. Evgeny Krivoshchekov, a leading specialist at the Tomsk Cardiac Center says: “Victor has an atrial septal defect and there are signs of pulmonary hypertension. Victor is weak and the heart defect does not allow him to develop. He needs to have the defect closed without delay."
Victor was successfully operated at the Tomsk Cardiac Center in Siberia on March 31, 2010.
The congenital heart defect was closed with a noninvasive surgical technique. The atrial septal defect was closed through the veins using an occluder. Dr. Evgeny Krivoshchekov notes the beneficial effects of the operation: "normal blood flow to the heart is restored. Victor’s heart disease has been reversed. He is now healthy."
The staff at the orphanage “Nadezhda” (Hope) thank you for helping little Victor.
